Aquis Search’s specialist legal recruitment team had the pleasure of delivering a lunchtime presentation at the French Chamber of Commerce on 23rd March, 2017.
The presentation, led by Director Miriam Leung, focused on the current hiring landscape for lawyers in Hong Kong, in both the private practice and in-house markets. Miriam said, “The 2016/2017 legal market in Hong Kong has proven an ever evolving landscape with shifting market conditions, new entrants to the Hong Kong legal market and significant changes in associates compensation and it was great to offer the panel our insights and predictions”. Ansir Mahmood, Aquis Search’s in-house Director, said “the attendees showed a keen interest in knowing about the in-house market and the opportunities that might exist that suit the varied and international backgrounds they have. They were also interested in finding out the key skills in demand in the short and medium term, and the challenges they may face. We had some useful discussions about in-house market in general and the opportunities for lawyers without Chinese language skills”.
Ciaran Foy, Associate Director also presented at the meeting, and added “the panel comprised of many senior legal professionals who manage legal teams and they were keen to understand the key drivers in why Hong Kong lawyers ultimately shift roles. It was a great opportunity to provide an insight into the often misunderstood reasons why lawyers make departures and to provide practical solutions on how to retain the best talent”.
The French Chamber of Commerce was established in 1986 and is one of the largest European chambers in Hong Kong. It is a diverse organisation, with a third of its members are non-French nationals. It provides members with business support services and networking opportunities to help raise their visibility and professional profile in Hong Kong. Dorothee Kosowski, Head of Member Services, said the presentation was valued by members and added " We thank [Aquis Search] also for having willingly answered our members’ questions and brought very practical information to them."
