The Role & Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with higher management to provide general legal and corporate governance advice on the day-to-day operations to the company and all regional legal entities and business units in the Asia region. A significant proportion of the work will be centred on the company’s or group’s operations and business activities in Singapore, China and Hong Kong, as well as within the ASEAN region;
  • Handle contractual documentation including joint venture agreements, franchise agreements, procurement contracts, leases, employment and intellectual property issues for the company and all regional legal entities and business units;
  • Set up and institute the proper processes, guidelines and documentation for the company and the group;
  • Perform general corporate and legal housekeeping, restructuring and corporate governance for the companies and related legal entities and business units in the Asia region;
  • Identify and manage legal risks, litigation and disputes;
  • To liaise with and manage external counsels;
  • Provide internal training on legal and compliance subjects;
  • Assist the higher management or regional teams with strategic projects or undertake other duties as and when required;

Requirements:

  • Be a qualified lawyer in at least one of the following jurisdictions: Singapore, China, Hong Kong;
  • Have at least 8 - 12 years of relevant legal experience gained at a reputable law firm and/or as in-house lawyer with exposure to the Asian region;
  • Experience with at least one or more of the following industries or business areas would be advantageous: Food and Beverage, FMCG, Retail;
  • Experience with at least one or more of the following areas of law would be advantageous: Mergers and acquisitions, franchising, intellectual property;
  • Be a commercially minded lawyer with strong legal analytical skills and insights in identifying the needs of the business;
  • Possess knowledge of both local and regional laws and regulations;
  • Possess excellent negotiation, communication and people management skills;
  • Possess excellent English and Mandarin as a significant part of the work will include liaising with Chinese counterparts in the China and Hong Kong markets.
